內容簡介

本書是21 世紀高等教育土木工程系列教材之一。全書由16個單元組成，每個單元包括課文精講、翻譯練習、材料泛讀等內容。本書所選閱讀材料涵蓋土木工程總論、結構工程、巖土工程、道路與橋梁工程、隧道與地下工程、土木施工管理等方面，閱讀材料內容新穎，大都是相關領域的新知識和新成果介紹。書中介紹的內容涉及專業英語的教學、語法特點、閱讀方法及翻譯方法與技巧等，對提高學生的專業英語閱讀和翻譯能力很有幫助。

本書可作為土木工程本科生專業英語課程的教材，也可作為土木工程研究生專業英語閱讀的參考用書，還可供土木工程及相關領域的高校教師和工程技術人員閱讀參考。

前    言

　　近年來，隨著我國對外開放的不斷深化以及全球化浪潮的日益迅猛，我國高等院校學生的英語教學也面臨著全新的要求，而專業英語是獲取專業信息、掌握學科發展動態、參加國際學術交流的基本前提。專業英語教學必須以提高學生的英語綜合應用能力為目標，使學生具備較強的跨文化交際能力，以應對未來職業的挑戰。

　　《土木工程專業英語》作為高等院校專業英語系列教材之一，需要充分結合土木工程各專業的特點。

　　本書結合編者多年來土木工程專業英語課程的教學經驗，在查閱了大量相關資料的基礎上，在選材上做了認真的篩選，以注重專業基礎內容和前沿專業知識為目標，本著覆蓋面廣、知識面寬以及適當介紹前沿專業知識的原則進行編寫。本書是國內首本采用中英文完整對照形式的土木工程專業英語教材。每課所列生詞表、專業術語、短語以及注釋都是教學實踐中學生經常提出的問題，因此針對性較強。此外，每課還安排了一定量的習題。讀者通過對課文的閱讀和練習，可以鞏固專業英語的基礎知識，擴大專業英語詞匯和專業術語，從而具備一定的閱讀專業英語文獻的能力和翻譯技巧，能夠以英語為工具通過閱讀去獲取與本專業有關的國外前沿科技信息，了解本專業的最新國際動態。另外，在每章后還附有適量的習題供讀者練習。將本書作為本科教材時，授課學時可采用32學時，教師可根據實際情況對講授內容進行取舍或增刪。

　　本書課文和閱讀材料語言規范，題材廣泛，覆蓋土木工程各專業的重要內容。全書共分16章：土木工程研究領域，迪拜——在建中的城市，土木工程材料，荷載，結構設計，結構建筑發展簡史，鋼筋混凝土，鋼結構，砌體結構，木結構，組合結構，道路設計，橋，測量的基本概念，防災與減災工程，項目規劃、組織及施工控制。課文的難易程度切實結合本科學生的實際水平。本書重視語言技能訓練，突出對閱讀和翻譯能力的培養，以求達到《大學英語專業閱讀階段教學基本要求》所提出的目標：“通過指導學生閱讀有關專業的英語書刊和文獻，使他們進一步提高閱讀和翻譯科技資料的能力，并能以英語為工具獲取專業所需的信息。”

　　英語知識覆蓋面廣、專業英語教學與實際的有機結合以及文獻閱讀選材廣泛，是本書的三個主要特色。編者希望通過學習本書，能使土木工程專業的學生較全面地掌握專業英語知識和應用技能，為今后的工作打下良好的基礎；也希望土木科技工作者能借助本書使自己的專業英語知識得到更新、充實和提高，對實際工作有所裨益。
